As Seen in The Good Trade: Reclaiming Whimsy in the Middle of Real Life

I was honored to be featured in The Good Trade’s article on whimsy, a beautifully written piece exploring how we rediscover lightness and joy as adults—especially in the midst of stress, responsibility, and modern overwhelm.

Whimsy, as the article explains, isn’t about frivolity—it’s about presence. It’s the freedom to notice beauty, to say yes to joy, and to stay open to small moments of delight. That hit home for me.

As a 58-year-old entrepreneur, retreat host, and single mom raising two teenage boys while caring for my 80-year-old mother, whimsy isn’t always easy to find—but it’s essential. It shows up when my sons help my mom mow the pasture. It’s there when we eat dinner together looking over the land. It lives in the slow walk to feed the horses or the laughter in the Pilates studio when someone finally “gets” the move.

And here’s what I know after 20+ years of teaching:
Helping my clients laugh is often the key to helping them find their transverse abdominis.
That’s the whimsy. That’s the science. When your nervous system softens, your deep core wakes up. When your breath is free, your power returns.

Whimsy isn’t extra—it’s the bridge to strength.
