Stand Up, Move Brave: Why Your Kid’s Pilates Class Might Be Covered by Insurance

We’re watching the health of our children unravel in real time.

As shared on a recent Joe Rogan Experience interview with Calley Means, the numbers are sobering:

  • 1 in 2 kids now has a chronic health condition

  • 40–60% of teenage girls are prescribed antidepressants or psychiatric meds

  • Childhood obesity rates have tripled over the last 30 years

  • Most kids spend over 9 hours a day sitting, with little to no structured movement

We’re losing the foundational link between body and brain, breath and behavior, and posture and power.

But we don’t have to accept this as the norm.

Pilates as Preventative Care

Pilates isn’t just a workout — it’s a neuromuscular education system.
It teaches children how to:

  • Move from their powerhouse (core)

  • Stack their spine — from occiput to coccyx

  • Breathe with control and regulate their nervous system

  • Build confidence through posture, not appearance

We’ve used it for 100 years to rehabilitate dancers and athletes. Now it’s time to bring it into PE class, homeschool pods, and insurance-funded wellness plans for children.

Yes, You Can Use Insurance to Pay for Pilates

With a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) from a physician, Pilates can often be paid for using:

  • Health Savings Accounts (HSAs)

  • Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs)

  • Reimbursement from wellness-focused insurance providers

Teach It. Chant It. Live It.

At our studios and retreats, we created a movement-based mantra that’s catching on with teachers and PE coaches. It’s called the “Stand Up” Cheer, and it’s designed to help children stack their spine, activate their core, and own their power — every day.

Here it is in full:

The “Stand Up” Cheer

By Melody Morton-Buckleair

Stand up. Stand up. Stand up.
Stand up. Stand up. Stand up for what is right.
You know what’s left — and you know what’s right.
You know this world ain’t feelin’ right…
Stand up. Stand up. Stand up and fight.

Stand up. Stand up. Stand up.
Stand up for you, stand up for him,
Stand up for us — and let’s begin!

Stand up. Stand up, even if it takes all your might.
Pull your head back in line with your spine!
Reach through your crown and pull your tail down tight.
From head to heel like steel — feel that length ignite.
Reach into the sky, lift your head up high —
You were born to shine, not shrink or hide.

Stand up. Stand up. Stand up!
Now scoop your belly, zip it tight.
That’s your POWERHOUSE, your core of might.
It wraps around from front to back,
It holds you strong when life attacks.
It’s where your courage starts to grow —
So pull it in and let it show!

Stand up. Stand up. Stand up.
Heart on fire. Fire in your belly.
Make it burn. No more jelly.
Scoop in deep — feel what’s real.
That’s your power. That’s your steel.

Stand up. Stand up. Stand up.
Let fear rise… then let it go.
Stand brave. Move bold. Let your true self show.

Stand up. Stand up. You’ve got the spark.
Now light the world. Leave your mark.
