Day after day I studied, watched, and trained, with my end goal in mind. Finally, after I finished my last assessment, I sat listening to my trainer give what I thought would be a “congratulations – you’ve finally made it” speech. Instead, she told us “you are still a small fish in a big pond. Your journey to be a teacher is just now beginning.” I felt such a let down that day. How could I come so far but still be at the beginning?
I still think of the talk I heard on assessment day. Now – three years later – I truly understand what she meant. I have grown more as a teacher over the last three years since I completed my formal training because I have learned through my clients, my experiences, my teaching successes and failures. I grow and learn every day with each client session and each class I teach. The Pilates teacher training is a journey that never truly ends.
]]> http://www.thegoodspace.com/youre-still-a-small-fish-in-a-big-pond/feed 0 Pilates Dream or Nightmare? http://www.thegoodspace.com/pilates-dream-or-nightmare http://www.thegoodspace.com/pilates-dream-or-nightmare#comments Mon, 26 Mar 2012 16:29:04 +0000 pilatescowgirl http://www.thegoodspace.com/?p=1167 On Dreaming Pilates We’ve all probably had the dreams where we suddenly realize we’re suppose to be teaching at that very moment all the way across town and we franticly scramble to get there.  But one of my all time favorite Pilates dreams that I had was right after PPSI training.  In one of those crystal clear realistic dreams, my then boss invited me to a fancy party and on arriving I find that the entertainment is for me to teach a mat class.  I can still see the men in tuxes and women in sequined evening gowns sitting down on the dance floor, trying not to knock over their glasses of champagne, while I’m trying to figure out if I’m more scared about teaching or angry at my boss for putting me in this situation.  I still laugh when I think about that dream…Laura Calderera
